Jesus ate really good food with really bad people.
To our surprise, the Bible begins with food and ends with drink. God’s story has a surprisingly lot to do with a table. Jesus sat at the same table with sinners and tax collectors to the dismay of his religious critics. His parables spoke of the kingdom of God, as a feast open to absolutely everyone. And his last act with his disciples was to share a meal. To share any meal together consuming the same food while sitting eye to eye is perhaps one of the more intentional ways we can experience vulnerability and exercise intimacy with one another. (see Genesis 2:16-17, Revelation 22:17, Mark 2:13-17, and Matthew 22:1-13)
As a community we eat together a lot because we believe those we eat with are those we are closest to. We call these Table Communities. Different people like to cook, others set up tables, clear plates and wash dishes, and some just need a meal and friendship. There are Table Communities throughout the week that gather to spend time together, build friendship, and eat a good meal.
Nearly once a month, we will take an evening to be together in each others homes to share life, stories, hope, and food. It is central to what we do. This is a perfect environment to develop more intimate friendships, make new connections, and grow in one’s relationship with God. All are welcome and are encouraged to come.
